The Akuse Methodist Senior Technical School in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality has received a first major infrastructure since its establishment in 21 years ago.
Establish in 1991 as a day institution with only 20 students, the school now has a population of 2500 students with 1500 being boarders and 100 being at students.
Unfortunately infrastructures for the school failed has to improve at a correspondent rate of student population grow thereby creating a lot of inconveniences to student, teaching and non teaching staff alike.
Majority of classroom blocks in the school are wooden structures which are not even adequate for the students, however intervention by government through GETFUND which provided 2 important projects brought some relief to the school.
Mr. Victor Smith, the Eastern Regional Minister as part of his tour to the district commissioned a 6 unit classroom block, built at a cost 260,000 for the school. He also inspected 3 storey girls’ dormitory block, headmistress quarters and sanitary facilities under construction to have about 600 students.
The project is about 90 percent complete and is estimated at GHs 110,000.00. The minister who expressed shocked at the current population of the school admitted that the school need infrastructure to provide the best atmosphere for teaching and learning.
He therefore assured the school that he will do all within his power to ensure that additional structures are provided in a shortest possible time.
He cautioned students against truancy and social vices including use of drugs but instead they should occupy themselves with their studies to secure a better future for themselves.
The school pleaded with government to support them with dinning hall assembly hall, teachers’ bungalow and more classroom blocks.
