AMA: Assembly spends GHs4M on waste management monthly

Refuse truck

The chairman of the Osu Klottey Sub-Metro of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Norgah has disclosed that the assembly spends about Ghs4 million monthly on refuse management.

According to him, the huge cost burdened on the assembly is as a result of the lackadaisical attitude by residents towards personal hygiene adding that some residents deliberately throw refuse around which creates discomfort for others in society.

Mr. Norgah made this known when addressing residents at Adabraka at the Accra Plastic Waste Management Project (APWMP) programme dubbed, “Cash Your Trash”.

He said the money wasted on refuse management could be channeled into other development projects such us executing more school projects to boost educational infrastructure in the area.

He however appealed for a collaborated effort by both the assembly and the public to help rid the metropolis of filth.

For her part, Miss Jane Oku, an opinion leader admonished residents to keep their polythene and other plastic sachet waste safe at all times for a fee.
