About 4,500 pupils dotted across the length and breadth of the Ketu North District in the Volta Region now benefits from the school feeding programme.
Break hours currently in the schools in the area is very intriguing especially when pupils come out in their numbers to eat free meals, a move the government is consistently executing smoothly.
This came to light when a ground breaking ceremony was held last week at Dzodze, the capital of the Ketu North District for the construction of a modern office complex for the education directorate of the area.
Speaking at the programme, the District Chief Executive, Lawson Kofi Claver said the expansion of the school feeding programme would help encourage maximum school attendance. “To meet the nutritional needs of our school pupils, and also, to encourage them to attend school and remain in the classroom, the school feeding programme has been expanded to cover more schools in the district,” he added.
He also stated that since he assumed office in 2009, the government has never relented in supporting them to execute development projects in various communities in the area.
The projects he noted included the provision of classroom blocks and furniture, residential accommodation for staff and sponsorship for needy but brilliant students, as well as provision of free school uniforms, exercise books, and free laptops to school pupils.
