This year’s World Environment Day has been commemorated with students and teachers of the Ola Girls’ Senior High school in Kanyasi and the Anglican Senior High school at Yamfo in the Tano North district of the Brong Ahafo Region.
As part of programmes which were lined up to commemorate the day an interactive session was held to educate students on good envioronmental practices after which they planted various species of tree seedlings.
The Tano North District Envionment Manager of Newmont Ahafo Mine, Anthony Loh, during the progremme explained that the students were targeted for the programme because Newmont considers them as the most valuable resources.
He believed the students have a better way of communicating that which they have learnt to their parents and other neglectful persons in society.
Headmaster of the Anglican SHS, Richard Akwesi Donkor, for his part said there was the urgent need for all to get on deck to contribute towards the protection of the environment recounting the old saying ’when the last tree dies the last man also dies’.
