SOCIAL: LESDEP makes strides in ER

The Local Enterprises and skills Development Programme, LESDEP has made significant gains in the Eastern Region.

The programme initiated to train and equip beneficiaries especially the youth to establish themselves has economically empowered a number of youth across various fields.

Eastern Regional Business Development Officer of the programme, Agyeman Prempeh in an exclusive interview with Ghanadistricts.com revealed an overwhelming reponds towards the programme  so far, as a significant number of people have expressed interest.

According to him, the Eatern Region has registered 11,003 beneficiaries out of which 752 from four municipalities/districts including New Juaben, Lower Manya, Yilo Krobo and Akuapim North have been trained and equiped.

Besides these, another 1,515 are currently undergoing vocational training in dress making, beauty care, babering, mobile phone repaires, driving among others. they would be provided with start-up kits like sawing machines, hair-dryers, mobile phone repair kits, tricycles, trucks and outboard motors.

He also diclosed that 60 outboard motors have so far been distributed to some beneficiaries in the Kwahu North, Kwahu East Yilo Krobo, Upper manya Krobo Districts, while more are expected in due course.

Mr Prempeh urged the youth especially the unemployed to take advantage of the programme to get self employemnt .

He indicted that the programme is a nationwide initiative to scale down unemployment in the country to alleviate poverty and appeal to the public to desist from politicising the initiative to ensure a lot more lives are affected positively.
