GA W:Medie in need of more drainage systems

Residents of Medie, a township in the Ga West Municipality, are calling on the government to extend the drainage pattern in the area since the town experiences severe flooding anytime it rains.
They trace the situation to inadequate drains and the area’s proximity to the Akwapim range, a high hill that usually directs bulk debris into the town whenever it rains saying that the earlier the problem was solved the better for them.
Confirming this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, the Assemblyman for the Media Electoral Area, Abdulai Iddrisu Agoro lamented that sometimes part of the hill breaks away and allows water to run into the area creating inconvenience for residents.
“Most of our lands have also been eroded due to this situation,” he noted and suggested that more trees be planted aside the extension of the drains to reduce the effect of flooding in the area.
On sanitation, Mr. Agoro pleaded on the Ga West Municipal Assembly to help level an old landfill site in the area or transform it into a satellite market for market women to trade their wares or a lorry station to improve transportation in the Medie town and its surrounding areas.
