GA W:Company pays NHIS premium for fifty people in Ga West
As part of its cooperate social responsibility, Engen Oil Ghana Limited, a PETRONAS subsidiary company, has paid premium of the National Health Insurance Scheme for 50 people, including orphans, in the Ga West Municipality.
Mr Alfred Buahing, Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Co-coordinator of Engen Oil, said the company meets at the beginning of every year to identify, discuss and find solutions to problems facing communities in which it operates.
He said the company had also donated 10, 000 exercise books to some schools in the Ga South Municipality, 5,000 books to schools in the East Akyem District and in Kwadaso and Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
He said the company supported some police stations in the Ga West and the Adentan Municipalities with fuel, to enable the police to work effectively to ensure law and order.
Mr Buahing said Engine, was collaborating with Dr (Mrs) Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, specialist in breast pathology, to organised breast cancer screening and education, and to give drugs to those infected with the disease.
He said the company would help the people to develop their potentials to be able to do things for themselves, instead of relying on Government alone.
Dr Cynthia Kwakye Maclean, said the Ga West Municipal Directorate of Health, Department of Social Welfare, and Assembly Members from the various communities collaborated to select the beneficiaries of the NHIS package that was offered by the company.
Dr Maclean thanked Engen Ghana Limited for the gesture, and appealed to the company to help the beneficiaries to renew their NHIS cards when they expire.
She appealed to individuals, non-governmental organizations, and civil society groups to support the Municipal Hospital, especially, “The Buruli Ulcer Ward of the Hospital.”
Mrs Josephine Atitogo, a beneficiary, thanked the company for promoting health in the municipality.
Engen Ghana Limited, an affiliate of Engen Petroleum Limited of South Africa, is an Africa-based energy company, which has specialised in downstream refining of petroleum products and related businesses.
The company’s core functions are refining of crude oil, marketing of primary refined petroleum products, and the provision of convenience services via extensive retail network.
