AKUAPIM S:Court fines an unemployed man GH˘1,200 for double registration

Court

The Nsawam Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced Solomon Anyaa, a 39-year-old unemployed man to a fine of GH¢1,200 for double registration in the ongoing biometric voter registration exercise.

In default he would go to prison for 12 months in hard labour.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Alex Cosmos told the court presided over by Madam Jennifer Myerb Ahmed that on April 15 and April 17, Mr Kofi Lettu, a Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) in-charge of Akuapem South Municipality went round to inspect registration centres in the area.

Inspector Cosmos said at Asante Akuraa centre, Mr Lettu saw the particulars of Anyaa and while he visited another centre at Djankrom it was also detected on the biometric machine.

The prosecutor said the EC Director thereby effected the arrest of the convict and was arraigned.

In handing over the sentence, the judge, Madam Ahmed warned the public that anybody who is caught in the act would be dealt with.
