TEMA:Gov’t procures outboard motors for fishermen

The Government has procured new 40HP branded outboard motors to be distributed to fish farmers in the country at a subsidized price.

The outboard motors were aimed at empowering fishermen in the country to end a livelihood as well as to boost output in the fishing sector.

Mr. Kwesi Ahwoi, Minister of Food and Agriculture who outdoor the equipment at a durbar held in Tema noted that each device was subsidized from GHs 7,500 to GHs 4,900 and would be sold directly to the fishermen on an outright cash-down basis.

The Minister also proclaimed that the national premix committee secretariat, in collaboration with the Energy Commission and the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), has adequately prepared to increase the supply of premix from 300,000 gallons per week to 450,000 gallons per week during the 2012 fishing season.

He reiterated government’s efforts to continually attract more investors to the sector and appealed to fisher folks to reduce prices of fish.
