NKWANTA S: Island communities get solar light
 | | | Solar light | |
A number of island communities in the Nkwanta South District in the Volta region can now enjoy electricity as a result of the provision of solar lights.
The villages include Kabiti, Vume, Teacherkope, and Police Barrier among others.
District Chief Executive, Joseph Nyofam Ninkab said as a result of their location, it was difficult extending electricity to the island communities hence the solar system intervention which was sponsored by Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) was welcome news.
According to him, the project is a step towards equipping communities with the requisite facilities to enhance economic activities that would in the long run reduce poverty.
In a related development, the DCE revealed that under the rural electrification project, government through the Energy Ministry has extended electricity with galvanized poles from Dambai through Tutukpemi to Kecheibi to Nkwanta.
Some ten communities are expected to benefit from this project to bring some improvement in the lives of the people.
The use of galvanized pole though expensive became necessary due to the menace of bushfire in those areas resulting in destruction of wooden poles that lead to blackouts.
