LAWRA: DCE partners rural banks to support inhabitants

The District Chief Executive for the Lawra District Assembly in the Upper West Region, Abu Samson has liaised with some local banks in the area to offer credit facilities to residents of the district.

This is a special initiative designed to create the platform for people in the district to solicit for financial support from some syndicated rural banks to ease the economic burden on their lives.

With the programme actively in place in the district, a lot of women and the youth are being given the opportunity to apply for loans between GHS 200- GHS 500 to assist them open up some venture in the area.

The DCE who spoke to Ghanadistricts.com on the initiative said, in order to enhance the distribution of the loans, interested persons particularly middle aged women were asked to put themselves into 15-20 groups, noting that this will facilitate the process and also help to track defaulters easily.

He also indicated that these loans made available to these individuals are fashioned to be reviewed over a period of time, based on the ability of beneficiaries to pay up all debt duly in the stipulated time.

He was therefore optimistic that these initiative would go a long way to improve the lifestyles of inhabitants, as well as boost micro-businesses in the area.
