Mr. Samuel Sarpong, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), has underlined the Government’s resolve to ensure adequate security to allow all voters to freely exercise their franchise in December polls.
He said this when inaugurating the 26-member metropolitan inter-party dialogue committee in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region yesterday adding that everything will be done to protect peace, unity and stability in the nation.
Mr. Sarpong appealed to the political parties and their supporters to act within the law, display high level of maturity and show mutual respect for each other.
They should all accept to share in the responsibility of helping to consolidate the nation’s multi-party democracy.
He said Ghana has become the toast of the international community for good governance and the rule of law and nothing should be done to undermine this.
Mr. Sarpong encouraged the committee to work hard and with dedication remove tension and violence from this year’s general elections and help create a platform where political parties can interact regularly and identify issues likely to fuel confusion.
Mr. Sarpong praised the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for spearheading the campaign to make the elections peaceful.
Mr. Kwaku Appia-Kagyah, the NCCE Metropolitan Director, reminded the members of the committee to show passion and commitment to the task entrusted to them.
The committee is made up of traditional and religious leaders, representatives of the political parties, the metropolitan assembly, security agencies, NCCE, the media and the electoral commission.
