The Agona West Municipal Assembly in the Central Region has expressed its commitment to further improve security in the District in 2012 to ensure safety for all residents.
According to the assembly security of the area is one of its priorities and will go every length to make sure that residents move about freely in doing their legitimate duties without fear of being attacked by miscreants in the area.
Delivery his address at the recently held 3rd Ordinary meeting of the 2nd Session of the Assembly, the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh stated that the war against criminals whose heinous activities have endangered the lives of people in the area, has so far been successful following the arrest of some criminals in a swoop conducted in Swedru and Nyakrom by the security agencies.
He noted that (17) seventeen people were arrested in Swedru while (9) nine were arrested in Nyakrom. Out of these (8) eight from Swedru and (6) six from Nyakrom have been remanded in prison custody and are to appear before court on the 11th January, 2012 for drug related offence.
Hon. Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh stated that the assembly has taken notice of the non-functioning streetlights and is implementing measures to improve lighting of the area to enhance security.
He added that currently, roads linking the various suburbs are being reshaped to ensure free passage and movement of vehicles, adding that this will enable the police to attend to any emergency should they occur.
