The Lawra District Assembly has received a total of 76 motor bikes from government to be distributed to Assembly members and government appointees in the area.
This is part of government’s efforts in deepening the decentralization system and also strengthening the operations of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) to become a force to reckon in the governance structure of the country.
In an interview with Ghanadistricts.com the District Chief Executive for the Lawra District, Abu Sampson reiterated that these motor bikes would help facilitate the operations of the Assembly members in their electoral areas.
He pointed out that transportation for these Assembly members over the period was a challenge as most of them had even 3-4 communities in their jurisdiction to manage.
He however added that these bikes have been given out to the beneficiaries to aid their movement within their respective electoral areas and beyond.
He indicated that though the motor bikes were meant for electoral areas activities, beneficiaries could also use the facility for other important community service which may not have been specified.
