The Agricultural Forum which is commemorated annually in the Greater Accra Region as a prelude to the Farmers’ Day celebration has been held in the Adentan Municipality.

The forum is said to bring together all the stakeholders in the agricultural sector, to discuss the challenges, potentials, successes and the next step for the development of the sector.

Speaking on the theme: “Grow more food — Research and youth Empowerment for sustainable agricultural development,” the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Armah Ashietey observed that research and youth employment is the key to achieving a massive food security in the country.

For this reason, he challenged the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) in the region to team up with experts in the agricultural sector to explore the possibilities of ensuring a year-rounded agricultural production and food security in the country.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Adentan, Nubyl Kakra Vanlare, in her welcome address noted that the assembly had put in place a number of measures to boost the level of agriculture in the municipality including the training of more than 50 farmers in grass cutter production noting that the assembly had supplied 30 farmers with more than 10 cages and 40 parent stocks of grass cutter.

She said the assembly had also tasked the Municipal Agricultural Development Unit and the Municipal Town and Country Planning Department as well as opinion leaders to identify areas in the municipality suitable for agricultural production.

She, therefore, appealed to the chiefs and other stakeholders to support the exercise.

The first Agricultural forum was held in the Dangme West District whilst the second in the Ga West Municipality.
