In the quest to boost the level of agriculture in the country, the Dangme West District has unleashed its prowess on the agricultural sector in the district.
The district which is endowed with arable lands, according to the Chief Executive, Mr. Emmanuel Odoi Lartey has the capacity to become the “food basket for the region.”
The DCE declared that for this reason, the Assembly has acquired 265 acres of land at Kordiabe and has been able to plough about 100 acres for plantain cultivation.
“So far 25,000 plantlets of plantain have been planted and still counting,” he added.
He said about 153 groups with ten (10) members each in a group have been registered under Young Farmers League Agriculture Programme in four (4) traditional areas in the District.
“With support from the National Security (in terms of equipments) 3,000 acres of land have been ploughed for these groups and ploughing has begun this year across the district,” he noted.
At a durbar organized in honour of President Mills at Dodowa, Mr. Lartey said the assembly is in the process of procuring 10 tractors, 10 rice reaper and 10 threshers to support agriculture in the district to ease the work on the farmers and to also serve as a bait to attract the youth into the sector.
Mr. Lartey reiterated that whilst the assembly is currently managing the agricultural sector effectively, plans are under way for the assembly to dive into Acqua-culture too.
