POLITICAL: CPP elects national executives today

Convention People’s Party

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) is in congress today to elect new National Executives to manage the affairs of the party towards the General Election in 2012.

CPP has been in opposition since the 70s and is hoping to revive its fortunes in the 2012 general election by making more gains especially in the parliamentary elections.

This however requires strong leadership, one that can unit the party.
Internal wrangling, power struggles among others have been a major problem the party had to battle with over the years which had even forced the postponement of this congress twice.

More than 2,000 delegates have gathered at the Trade Fair Center in Accra from across the country to elect their national executives from about 20 candidates.

The only Member of parliament on the ticket of Convention People’s Party, Samia Nkrumah,  the incumbent Chairman, Ladi Nylander, former Chairman Edmund Delle and Araba Bentsi-Entsil are all vying for the chairmanship position of the party.

A leading member of theparty, Kwesi Pratt Junior contributing on Alhaji and Alhaji programme on Radio Gold described the congress as a make or break of the party.
