SECURITY: Government will equip the Military to protect national resources- Mills

President John Evans Atta Mills has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to equipping the Ghana Armed Forces to enable it safeguard the country’s oil reserves.
According to the president, adequately equipping the military would allow the institution to actively involve itself in the infrastructural and industrial development of the country.
President Mills made the pledge at the 51st Graduation Parade of the Ghana Military Academy in Accra on Friday, President Mills reminded the graduating officers of the need to promote a cordial military-civilian relationship for peaceful co-existence.
The President’s comments follow recent plans by the government to purchase some five aircraft for the Armed Forces and the Presidency.
“My administration promises to equip the Military so that they are able to perform their assignment to the very best of their ability.
“We are in the process of equipping the Airforce and the Navy in protecting our territorial waters and safeguard our resources that the good Lord has so liberally placed at our disposal”.
He reminded the Military of the essential roles that awaits them as the nation forges forward in her developmental drive.
“Remember to help promote military-civilian relations and as you already know the Military is going to be involved in infrastructural and industrial development”.
