CAPE COAST: Investigate reports about Presidency thoroughly before publication

The Central Regional Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the media to investigate reports about the Presidency in detail before publishing them.
    
In a statement to the media in Cape Coast on Wednesday, Mr Samuel Kweku Adu-Yeboah, the Regional Chairman, expressed
disappointment about the media’s handling of the tenancy arrangement between President Mills and the Management of Regimanuel Gray Company over accommodation for security guards at the President’s private residence.
   
 He, therefore, appealed to the media to do painstaking investigations before bringing allegations about the Presidency in the
public domain in order not to ridicule the President.
    
He said: “With the introduction of sophisticated channels for accessing information, you must ensure that what you publish or say about the Presidency is nothing but the truth.
   
 “We need not wash our dirty linen before the world.”
   
 Mr Adu-Yeboah, a lawyer, pointed out that if the media had not been in a rush to come out with the story and had done the necessary
consultations to ascertain the truth about what they had heard, they would not have tarnished the hard won reputation of the President.
    
He appealed to Ghanaians to respect the Presidency and try to exercise some decorum when discussing issues involving it.
    
The NDC Chairman stated that the way the security guards’ accommodation issue was discussed and the phone-in calls left much to be desired.
    
He urged Ghanaians to bear in mind that any disgrace of the Presidency is a disgrace to all Ghanaians because we elected him to
that position.
   
 Mr Adu-Yeboah urged the newspaper and the radio stations which carried the story to retract it and render unqualified apology to the
President for putting him up for public ridicule.
