SEKYERE CENTRAL: Assembly to take over running of Atwia Mountain

A mountain

The Sekyere Central District Assembly in the Ashanti Region is to take over the administration of the Atwia Mountain which is a tourist site to improve revenue collection for the assembly.

The place is currently being manned by indigenes and traditional authorities but the last meeting of the assembly resolved that  it should take over the running of the site and ensure that all monies collected from tourists are added to the internally generated funds.

The Atwia Mountain which has a spectacular natural rock formation host several thousands of people in a year, mostly Christians who visit prayer camps built near the mountains.

The assembly believes it can generate some income by taking tolls from the huge volume of people who visit the place for their personal gains.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com, the District Chief Executive of Sekyere Central, Ebenezer Akuoko Frimpong stated that the assembly has no place for such self seeking collectors and it will do everything within its power to nib the criminal practice in the bud.

He said in a bid to check such unscrupulous acts the assembly has transferred several of such revenue collectors outside the district.

He noted that the assembly which is very much committed to improving its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) has engaged the services of several commission collectors to complement the efforts of the revenue collectors working in the various markets as there are lots of leakages identified in the markets.

Hon. Akuoko Frimpong added that the assembly will continue to organize capacity building programmes to sharpen the skills of the revenue collectors.
