Basic school students at Akuase, a community in the Birim North District have been offered a golden opportunity of acquiring practical skills in Information, Communication Technology (ICT).
Unlike, most basic schools in the country including those in major towns and cities that only learn the theory of ICT due to lack of computer laboratories, students of Akuase have a fully installed fifty computer laboratory where they learn the subject.
This was made possible through the benevolence of BigStep Foundation, a non-governmental organization committed to helping rural communities fight poverty through ICT and other social interventions.
The Holland based foundation with an off shot in Ghana provided and installed fifty Pentium IV computers and also provided printer and scanner to the centre.
The Ghana Education Service complemented their effort with a trained ICT teacher who manages and educate the students.
Mr. Samuel Anie-Amoah in charge of the foundation was hopeful the interest shown by the students in the subject was heartwarming and thus gives value for money.
He assured of the foundations preparedness to extend the centre to other towns, adding that there about four of such centres in the district established by BigStep Foundation.
