(ELMINA) K/E/E/A: Cabinet sanctions novel Industrial Policy

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Hannah Tetteh has announced that cabinet has approved a feasible and pragmatic Industrial Policy, introduced and developed by her Ministry.
Ms. Tetteh, who was addressing the mid-year review workshop at Elmina in the Central Region, however said the commissioning of the Industrial Support Programme later in the year would pave way for its implementation.
A statement issued by the Ministry and signed by the Acting Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Nana Akrasi-Sarpong, said the ministry engaged in a two-day retreat to facilitate the assessment of its performance for the half year and develop apt and fitting approach for the rest of the year.
Ms Tetteh said an appraisal would be carried out on the Free Zones to conform to modern trends as regards the passage of a new Legislative Instrument (LI) to regulate the Free Zones.
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Mahama Ayariga, was optimistic a broad stakeholder workshop to be held in Tamale from September 1-2 would be enough to develop a comprehensive strategy to revive and make the cotton industry one of the major export sectors of the country.
