(TUMU) SISSALA EAST: Sissala communities get new radio station

Communications Minister, Haruna Iddrisu

The Minister of Communications, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, has urged the media to concentrate more on issues that promote social empowerment and development rather than in political debates.

That, he said, would put them in the position to focus on development issues such as protecting the environment, education, balanced cultural promotion, health and sanitation.

The minister also stressed the need for government to make concious efforts to enhance the flow of information through regular interactions between government and the media.

Mr. Iddrisu made the call when he formally inaugurated a new community radio station, Radford 107.5 FM, for the Sissala community at Tumu in the Upper West Region.

Radford 107.5 is an acronym from the expression "Radio for Developmet" and its establishment was made possible through the support of Plan Ghana, an international child centred non-governmental organisation, with support from philanthropists.

Mr. Iddrisu who was the guest of honour, was full of praise for Plan Ghana and advised the management of the station to prepare adequately to reap the dividends offered by new technologies in the broadcasting industries.

He said that was necessary because of the migration from the analogue to digital braodcasting.

The Communications Minister said Radford 107.5 FM had the potential to grow and enhance the development of the two Sissala districts and beyound.
