NATIONAL : Museums day marked

one of the museums

Ghana joined the rest of the world to celebrate the International Museums Day, a day set aside to encourage awareness on the role of Museums in the development of society. This year’s celebration is under the theme: "Museums for Social Harmony" is set aside by the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

According to statement issued by Mr. B. Opoku Acheampong, on behalf of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Boards, the celebration would provide an opportunity for museum professionals and public to discuss the challenges museums face in endeavouring to be an institution at the service of society and its development.

As part of the celebration, there would be a free guided tour at all Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) facilities such as Museums Galleries, Forts and Castles and Asante Traditional Buildings and facilities in Cape Coast and Elmina.

Other events include the hosting of passengers on a special United States of America Cruiser Ship and an Inter School Quiz Competition on Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Ghana’s Heritage.
