The Yonso Project, a non- governmental organisation (NGO), has since last year supported 51 women petty traders at Yonso and Apaah in the Afigya-Sekyere District with loans. The Country Director of the Project, Mr. Kwabena Danso, said the loans fell in line with the social responsibility of the NGO and aimed at helping the traders to expand their businesses. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on Sunday, he said the project in collaboration with its branch in the United States had planned to extend their services to needy women in other communities in the district. Mr. Danso stressed the need for the nation to commit resources towards building the capacity of women in the country to enable them to play a significant role in the nation’s socio-economic development. Touching on education, he said his outfit was supporting about 100 pupils and students in the basic and second-cycle institutions in the country this year to enhance their educational development. He said the NGO had distributed school bags, uniforms, sandals and boots as well as stationeries to over 70 pupils at Yonso, Apaah, Akrofonso and Kyekyewere, all in the Afigya-Sekyere District. Mr Danso said the Project intends to sponsor two teacher-trainees in these communities to help them serve the communities after their training.
