The NEPAD School Feeding Programme was introduced barely a year ago to provide one-square-meal a day for pupils in basic public schools.
The programme is currently running in some selected metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs). It is being done in phases until all MMDAs are covered.
The main goal of the programme is to provide at least one nutritious meal a day to the rural poor student as well as have sound mind in learning. Since its inception, enrolment in most public schools has more than doubled.
