Vote Competent People for Assembly Positions
A former assembly member for Forikrom electoral area in Techiman municipality, Mr James Kwabena Osei, has called on the electorate to exercise their franchise during the unit committee and district assembly level elections.
He said they could only get the right candidate to lead them for meaningful development if they patronized the polls.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Boankonu, Mr Mireku said low turnout at the elections in the past resulted in the wrong candidates winning.
He appealed to the municipal electoral commission to appoint qualified returning and presiding officers to man polling stations and to deploy adequate security personnel at the polling stations.
The Assembly Member cited an incident during the 2000 district assembly and unit committee elections when supporters of a defeated candidate allegedly beat up a police officer at Forikrom and some ballot papers seized from him during counting.
Mr Osei emphasized the need for the people to remain united after the elections.
