The district capital is Apam.  It is bordered Agona District to the north, by Awutu-Effutu-Senya District to the northeast and east, and Mfantseman to the west and Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District to the northwest respectively. To the south, the district is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the dissected Awutu-Effutu-Senya District.
