Population
According to the 2000 Population and Housing Census, the District has a population of 35,063, made up of 16,489 males and 18,574 females. The projected population for 2010 is 43,016 consisting of 19,755 Males and 22,261 Females with a growth rate of 1.7. The population of the District is basically rural without certain basic amenities like electricity and telephone services. Rural-Urban migration is therefore common in the District especially during the dry season as majority of the people become unemployed after harvest.

The population trend indicated high dependency ratio in the district.
