Population Characteristics

Population size
The District has an estimated total population of about 115,092(i.e. 41% of the total population of the former Wassa Amenfi District) and a growth rate of 2.9% according to the 2000 population census figures.

Age-Sex Structure
The population of the District is very youthful (under 15), accounting for about 42% of the total population. This reveals a common characteristic of rural communities in third world countries.  The table below gives the Age-sex distribution of the population of the district.

The density of the population is about seven (7) persons per sq. km with the largest communities being the densest.

The District has over 250 settlements with one traditional paramountcy at Wasa Akropong. It has one political constituency being the Amenfi East Constituency.
