POPULATION INFORMATION
A total population of about 4, 753 made up of 48,942 and 55,811 females by the 2000 population and housing census, with growth rate of 1.8%.

MAJOR TRIBES, ETHNIC GROUPS AND LANGUAGES
There are three major ethnic groups in the district.
a) The Akuapem Speaking Twi
b) Guan speaking groups
c) Okeres who speaks kyerepong
Other settlements like ewes, Krobos and people of Northern extraction in the district.

SETTLEMENT
There are 248 settlements in the district

BOARDERS OF DISTRICT
It is located in the South-Eastern part of the region  and bounded in the north-east by the Yilo Krobo District. North-west by the New Juaben Municipality, south-west by the Akuapem South District ad on the west by the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District.  It is situated on the Akuapem – Togo Range with a  general altitude of between 38 1m and 487m with the highest peak reaching 500m.

MAJOR TOWNS AND VILLAGES
Akropong is the District Capital
Other major towns are Mampong, Adukrom, Larteh Abiriw, Awukugua, Mamfe and Dawu.
