01. Educational Institutions
Missionaries, is located at Akropong Akuapem. It is little over 150 years old. It is the first higher Educational Institution to be established in the country and the second in West Africa after Fourah Bay College in Sierra Leone.

The Presbyterian Training College (PTC) founded in 1848 by the Basel Another historical insitutional facility is The Salem School, the First Boys Boarding School to be established in the country was founded in 1867 by the Basel Missionaries at Akropong Akuapem.

02. Akaa Fall

Historical Cemeteries
The PTC cemetery located at Akropong Akuapem houses the graves of the Early. The tomb of the Late Akuffo Addo, Ghana’s first Ceremonial President is located at Daakye, a suburb of Akropong Akuapem.

Okomfo Anokye shrine
This is the shrine of the legendary Okomfo Anokye, a famous and powerful traditional priest and prophet through whose mystical powers the  Ashantis and their sacred powerful ‘’Golden Stool’’ which has made them a  united people and a kingdom up to date.

The sacred shrine, which has been preserved up to date, is located at  A w u k u g u a  - A k u a p e m , his birth place. It is of interest to note that evidence of his mystical powers is still seen in many towns and villages in the Akuapem area

The Biggest and Historic Chapel in the District
Otu Memorial Chapel
This historic Chapel is located at Larteh Akuapem.  It is the biggest Chapel in the District.  The significance of this magnificent Chapel is that it was built in memory of the first Ghanaian Martyr, Samuel Otu, who was publicly beheaded at Takyimantia in the Brong Ahafo Region.  The  Chapel  is famous for its architecture.

The Famous Akonedi Shrine
This famous and powerful shrine which is of religion-cultural significance has existed over several generations now. It is situated at Larteh-Akuapem.  The shrine is so powerful and popular that it has  become more or a ‘’Mecca’’ during new year seasons.  People from all walks of life both Ghanaians and Foreigners alike.  Especially Americans troop to this place for some consultations of a sort or to seek one kind of magical protection or another.

Slave Market of Abonse
The town of Abonse was an important slave market in the 17th and 18th Centuries.  Traces of the original market can still be seen.

Tourist Receptive Centre
The District has a tourist receptive centre at the Mampong Tetteh Quarshie cocoa farm.  The centre has conference and meeting facilities and a museum that houses exhibits used by  Tetteh Quarshie.

Natural Attractions
The Amenapa Waterfall
It is located at Amenapa, a suburb of Akropong-Akuapem, the District Capital.  Although it is not as high as the other waterfalls in the District, the meanderings in which the water flows through the rocks make it interesting to watch.  It flows almost all year round.  The uniqueness of this waterfall is that it served as a source of water for the early Basel Missionaries and it was this which helped to sustain them in Akuapem.  It also served as a source of water for the First Boys Salem School.

The Obom Cave
It is claimed as being the bunker for ancient warriors.  This cave is said to be situated on an ancient route that  led from Ashanti to the cost.  Okomfo Anokye is said to have used this route when he first traveled to Ashanti from his native home, A w u k u g u a A k u a p e m.  There are two depressions on the surface of a rock besides this cave where Okomfo Anokye is said to have sat down to rest on his way to Ashanti.  The two depressions are believed to be the imprints of his buttocks when he sat down to rest.

The Rock House (‘’Obodan’’)
It is also located within same vicinity of the Nsuta Waterfall about one hundred metres left of the falls.  It is a solid geographical rocky landform with a canopy shape.  It is believed that ‘’Obodan’’ can provide shelter for about one thousand people when it is raining  and those sheltered under it would not be touched by the rain.  It is very broad, about 150metres in width. The most striking feature of this rock house is that since creation, no water has fallen under it.  This  is evident by the nature of soil found under it.

The Wonderful Fontomfrom Talking Drum
This wonderful and mysterious drum is shielded by an outcrop of rock formation.  It is about 1.88m long.  It is believed to be over 300 to 400 years old.  The most striking features about this drum are the mysteries being there and the fact that is rambles on special festive occasion.

Cultural Heritage
Friendly Character of the Akuapem People
The natural friendliness and sense of hospitality of the people of Akuapem have been seen as another  unique and district characteristic of our people.

The Popular Akuapem Odwira and Ohum Festivals
Akuapem Odwira and Ohum Festival, two of the famous and most important cultural festivals celebrated in the country, are celebrated in turns by the chain of towns of the Akuapem Ridge.  These festivals commence in September and ending in January every year.  Each of these festivals is crowned with a colourful durbar of Chiefs and people of the area/town concerned.

Tourism  Infrastructure
The District also enjoys considerable tourism infrastructure that enhances tourism. These include our roads, post and telecommunication facilities and utility services.  The District has eleven hotels and lodging facilities and decent restaurants.

The Way Forward  
The District has the vision of making tourism the engine of growth.  It is therefore the wish of the District to develop tourism to attract visitors as well as investors. The Assembly aims to promote community-based tourism with the view to generate employment and income.  With this in mind, the Assembly will develop a comprehensive District Tourism Plan.  The proposed basic concept of the plan is that tourism development should be sustainable with the resources of tourism indefinitely conserved and well maintained for further use.
