MEASURES TO MAKE THE PROGRAMMES/PROJECTS ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Programmes /projects that entail expansion and/ or upgrading will require the preparation and submission of Environmental Plans whilst new ones will be taken through Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

These rational tools will ensure that programmes /projects as contained in the Medium Term Development Plan (2006 – 2009) are environmentally friendly.

The EIA Reports will contain mitigating measures to address adverse effects resulting from the implementation of the programmes/projects. These mitigating measures will involve enhancing areas susceptible to degradation through landscaping and greening.

There will also be periodic environmental audit to ensure ecological balance whilst fragile ecologies will be spared.
