The district forms part of the Ashanti Plateau and has generally undulating landscape. It lies between 500 and 2,000 feet above sea level. Among the hills with high elevation are Aya, Kwamisa and Tunte. The major rivers found in the district are Mankran, Abu and Aboabo. River Abu is the largest river and it takes its source from the Kwamisa Hills. It flows south-westwards.
