The district lacks many developed tourist spots. Indeed, this creates a lot of opportunities for investors in the tourism sector. There is the vast water body, which makes up the Sene part of the Volta Lake and the many islands dotted on it could be developed into viable tourist spots and holiday resorts in the district.
The district’s natural vegetation, especially around the lake, provides a habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. Digya National park, a reservation, which is home to a wide range of animal and flora species, extends into the district and this is a prime tourist attraction, which provides the district with unique opportunities for the development of a vibrant tourism industry.
Investors are being actively sought by the District Assembly to exploit the various untapped resources with a view to accelerating the district’s attempts to enhance its development outlook in the new millennium.
The district lies within the Sene-Obosom River Basins and the Volta Lake. Three major rivers drain the district. These are the Volta, the Pru and Sene Rivers. This has provided opportunities for the emergence of fishing as a major economic activity in the district. In addition to these major rivers, there are minor rivers, which dry up during the dry season. The Volta Lake covers a considerable portion of the district.
