DISTRICT DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES Introduction
Following the preparation of the government’s GPRS II, several interventions are expected to lead the development agenda of the District within the Plan period. The scope and direction of these interventions are expected to be consistent with the main pillars of the GPRS II.
To ensure that a very efficient ranking of the development priorities are obtained, the area council plans that were prepared with the support of VIP were revisited and validated with each town and area council. The plans covered the period of 2004 – 2006. During the validation exercises, consideration was given to the relevance of the plans taken due cognizance of their respective Potentials, Opportunities, Challenges and Constraints (POCC). These same concerns and some others emerged at the two day stakeholders’ workshop where all stakeholders were made to make presentations regarding their current state and aspirations into the future.
In this chapter, we consider the district development priorities that emerged from these validation exercises, and how they relate to their respective GPRS II pillars.
Key Development Prioities By Town/Area Councils The various town and area councils have different development priorities.
