Historical Origin
The  Ga  South  Municipality  was  carved  out of  the  erstwhile  Ga  West  District  in  February, 2009 in  pursuance  of  the  government’s  decentralization  and  local  government  reform  policy  as enshrined  in  the  LI  1867. The inaugural name  of  the  district  was  “Weija  Municipal  Assembly” but  the  Assembly  resolved  to  have  the  name changed  to  “Ga  South  Municipal  Assembly”  with its capital at  Weija.
