Nabdam District with its Administrative capital Kongo was carved from Talensi-Nabdam and forms part of the new districts and municipalities created in the year 2012 and were inaugurated at their various locations simultaneously on the 28th June, 2012. The President H.E. J.E.A Mills, by an Executive Instrument (E.I) created 46 new Districts. All the inaugurated and confirmed MMDAs established are operational with immediate effect hence bringing the total number of MMDAs to 216. The District shares boundaries with Bolgatanga Municipal to the West, Bongo Distrit to the North, to the South with the mother District Talensi, to the East with Bawku West. The District forms part of the thirteen (13) Municipalities and Districts in the Upper East .
Efforts at improving quality of education is seemingly tenable for the Nabdam district, as the assembly claimed it has almost succeeded in removing schools under trees in the area, District Chief Executive for the assembly, Vivian Anafo has disclosed.
The District Chief Executive for the Nabdam District Assembly, Vivian Anafo has hailed the co-operation of traditional authorities, opinion leaders and all assembly members regarding the efforts in facilitating development matters of the area.
World Vision International, a non-governmental organization(NGO) has teamed up with the Nabdam district assembly to undertake the drilling and installation of nine boreholes in certain deprived communities.
