Kassena-Nankana West District with its Administrative capital Paga forms part of the new districts and municipalities created by the President, J.A Kufuor were inaugurated at their various locations simultaneously on the 29th of February 2008. The President by an Executive Instrument (E.I) created 27 new Districts, 4 Municipalities, Upgraded 26 existing Districts and 2 existing Municipalities. The district now forms part of the thirteen (13) municipalities and districts in the upper east Region of Ghana. The District shares boundaries with Burkina Faso to the North, Builsa District to the South, Sissala East District in the Upper West Region to the West, and Kassena-Nankana East Municipal to the East.
The District Education Oversight Committee(DEOC) in conjunction with various stakeholders of education in the Kassena Nanknana West district has developed a tracking system to aid purge the sector and curtail teacher absenteeism in schools.
Mr Roland Adatuu, Chief Executive Officer of Youth Link Ghana, has asserted that sexual immorality among pupils of basic schools in the Kassena-Nankana area significantly contribute to falling standards in education.
The new District Chief Executive for the Kassena Nankana West District Assembly, George Nonterah says almost all the roads linking the Eastern part of the district like Sirigu, Mirigu and Kanbiga amongst others are in deplorable conditions and must be upgraded.
The Kassena Nankana West district may experience a leap in the results of its Basic Education Certificate Exams(BECE) in subsequent years, as the new DCE for the area, George Nonterah is bracing up to overhaul the educational system to improve the academic laurels of school children.
