The Bawku West district is located in the north-eastern section of the Upper East Region. Zebilla is the district capital. It is bordered to the north by the Republic of Burkina Faso, to the east by the Bawku East District, to the west by the Bolgatanga District and to the south by the East Mamprusi District.
Significantly, two tributaries of the Volta River namely the White Volta and the Red Volta run contiguous to the districts eastern and western boundaries respectively. There is a strong relationship between the geology and the relief of the district.
An initiative to practically rid the environment of excess polythene waste has seriously taken-off at Zebilla and across the surrounding environs in the Bawku West district in the Upper East region.
The District Chief Executive for the Bawku West District Assembly, Moro Adam Anabah has revealed that works on the Zebilla-Zabre road, which links Ghana and Burkina Faso will soon be accomplished to ease transportation.

The Bawku West District Assembly has managed to push all required efforts for the commencement of works on the 17 emergency boreholes scheduled for some selected communities of the district.
The long awaited opportunity to secure a Junior High School (JHS) for the Kaare-Natinga basic school in the Bawku West district will soon be realized as an additional block has been built for the school to open up classrooms meant for teaching and learning activities.
