Savelugu/Nanton Municipal was carved out of the then Western Dagomba District Council which comprised Tamale, Tolon and Savelugu. The district shares boundaries with Tolon/Kumbugu District to the west, Tamale Municipalty to the south and Yendi Ditrict to the south-east.
Mr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Member of Parliament for Nanton in the Northern region is earnestly leaving no stone unturned to enhance the social lives of his constituents with the provision of some essential infrastructure in the area.
A school Management Committee Chairman of the Moglaa community in the Savelugu district in the Northern region, Salifu Haruna has called on government and the Assembly to ensure the expansion of more infrastructure and the provision of computers to schools in the bid to assist improving the academic laurels of pupils.

The Savelugu/ Nanton District Assembly has engaged the services of a consultant to pursue and collect taxes from telecommunication companies operating in the district on behalf of the assembly to enable it run its affairs effectively.
