Nanumba North is one of the twenty (26) districts in the Northern Region of Ghana. The district shares boundaries with East Gonja District to the west and south-west, Yendi Municipal to the north. To the east, it shares boundaries with Zabzugu District, to the south with kpandai District and to the south east with the Nanumba South. The administrative district capital is Bimbilla.
The district is occupied by two major ethnic groups, namely the Nanumbas and Konkonbas and a few Basares and other minority tribes with the Nanumbas forming the dominant ethnic group. Therefore major languages spoken are Nanumba and Konkomba.
The Chamba and Nakpayili Communities in the Nanumba North and Nanumba South districts have benefited from a pilot Community Day Care Centre projects initiated by ActionAid to offer special care for kids free of charge.
The Police have tighten up security measures at Bimbilla and its environs as investigations are seriously ongoing to apprehend all persons connected with the gruesome murder of the Chief of Nanumba Traditional Area,Naa Dasana Andani and three of his family members at his palace in Bimbilla.
Reports from the Nanumba North District in the Northern Region indicate that calm has been restored to the area after sporadic shooting between rival factions on Thursday night. Disagreement over the burial place of the Na-Kpana Salifu Dawunide reportedly resulted in the sporadic shooting.
