East Mamprusi, one of the 20 districts in the Northern Region, has its capital at Gambaga. It is located in the North-Eastern part of the Region. To the North, it shares boundaries with the Upper East Region and to the East is the Republic of Togo. It is bordered to the west by the Gusheigu District and the Saboba/Chereponi District.
The district lies in the Tropical Continental Belt Western Margin.The district lies in the interior woodland savannah belt and its common grass vegetation with trees such as baobab, acacia and sheanuts trees.Grasses grow in tussocks and can reach heights of three metres or more.
Mr Adam Imoro, DCE for East Mamprusi District Assembly, has welcomed move by the assembly and Ghana Health Service(GHS) to initiate plans of establishing a district hospital in the area.
Mr. Tibila Sandow, Presiding Member for the East Mamprusi district has appealed to government to ensure a regular and prompt release of funds due the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) to enable the assemblies undertake the necessary projects for the people.
Mrs Lordina Mahama, the first lady, has donated assorted items in support for the elderly women resident at the Gambaga Witch Camp in the Northern Region.
The District Chief Executive for the East Mamprusi District Assembly, Hon. Adam Imoro has advised the youth in the area to eschew all forms of character that will mar successful elections this year.
Government’s commitment to end the schools under trees system is on course with the construction of thirteen (13) separate six -unit classroom blocks in various schools in the East Mamprusi District to ensure conducive environment for teaching and learning.
