North Gonja District with its capital Daboya was carved from West Gonja and forms part of the new districts and municipalities created in the year 2012 and were inaugurated at their various locations simultaneously on the 28th June, 2012. The President H.E. J.E.A Mills, by an Executive Instrument (E.I) created 46 new Districts. All the inaugurated and confirmed MMDAs established are operational with immediate effect hence bringing the total number of MMDAs to 216. The district shares boundaries with Mamprugo Moaduri District to the north WaWest to the North West. West Gonja to the south, Sawla-Tuna- Kalba district to the west, Tolon district to the south East and Kumbungu district to the North West.
Efforts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to increase dozens of deprived communities that could get light under the implementation of the Rural Electrification Programme (REP) up-north , is yielding good results.Lingbinsi, a local community within the North Gonja district has been connected to the national grid.
Several houses and school infrastructure in the Daboya township, got their roofs blown away when a severe rainstorm hit the town and its surrounding communities on Sunday night, causing havoc to life and property.
Local Gov’t Committee of Parliament to tour new districts Chairman of the Local Government Committee in Parliament, Hon. Dominic Azumah has revealed that the committee will very soon tour the newly created Districts within the country.
