The West Akyem Municipal is in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It lies between longitudes 0 degrees 25 minutes West and 0 degrees 47 minutes West and latitudes 5 degrees 40 minutes North. It has an area of about 1,018 square kilometers. The Municipal capital, Asamankese, is located 75 kilometres North-West of Accra off the main Accra-Kimasi trunk road.
The Municipal shares boundaries with Kwaebibrem District to the North, Birim South to the West, Agona, Ewutu Municipal and Ga East Municipal to the South, and Suhum-Kraboa-Coalter and Akwapim South districts to the East.
The Zongo community at Asamankese in the West Akim Municipality has expressed gratitude to the municipal assembly for their timely intervention in dredging the main gutter that passed through the community.
There is hope for about twenty-seven communities in the West Akim Municipality to be connected to the electricity national grid soon under the rural electrification project.
Mr. Victor Smith, Eastern Regional Minister has urged the people of the Upper West Akim District, one of the newly created districts to use the opportunity to ensure accelerated development of the various communities.
