The Effutu Municipal is situated between latitudes 5020 north and longitudes 00 25, west and 0037, west on the eastern part of the Central Region Ghana. It is winded and sandwiched by Greater Accra Region and the District (i.e. Ga Rural, Agona and Gomoa).
It is bordered to the north by Agona Municipal the north-east by the West Akim Municipal, to the south by the Gulf of Guinea, to the east Gomoa District and Ga West Municipal, and on the west by the Gomoa District.
The Municipal covers an area of 417.3 square kilometers (163 sq miles). According to Population and Housing Census of 2000, the municipal had a population of 169,972, which represent 10.7% of the population of the Central region. The Municipal has 168 settlements.
Winneba is the capital town of Municipal. The major settlements with population of 5000 or more Winneba, Kasoa, / Senya Bereku, Awutu, Bawjiase, Bontrase and Jeikrodua.
Residents of Winneba and its surrounding communities in the Effutu Municipality have been advised to isolate themselves from habits that brings about poor sanitation in their respective communities.
The out-going Central Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa-Doe has commissioned an ultra-modern Community Health Planning Service (CHPs) compound at Winneba in the Effutu Municipality.
About 190 persons in the Effutu Municipality have successfully received skills training under the Ghana Youth Employment Entrepreneur Development Agency (GYEEDA) as part of efforts to cut down the rate of unemployment in the area.
Due to accommodation deficit problems facing the school, the Japanese Government is in the process of funding the construction of a 13-room dormitory block for the Winneba Senior High School (SHS).
