Ahafo Ano South District is at the north-western part of the Ashanti Region. The District bounded to the north by Brong Ahafo Region, to the south by Atwima District, to the west by Ahafo Ano District and to the east by the Offinso District. The district lies 32 kilometres northwest of Kumasi on the Kumasi - Sunyani road.
The District covers a total surface area of about 1241km, representing 5.8% of the region’s total surface area. With the above description of location, the district can be said to fall within the forest belt of Ghana. The District Capital, Mankranso, is located 34km North-West of Kumasi on the Kumasi-Sunyani Highway.
The population of the district according to the 2010 Population and Housing Census stands at 121,659 with 61,745 males and 59,914 females.
The Government has described as “unacceptable”, the misconduct of infamous Ahafo Ano-South District Chief Executive (DCE), Gabriel Barima, for storming out of a public event in a fit of anger after he was heckled.
