Obuasi Municipal Assembly was carved out of the erstwhile Adansi West District Assembly on the strength of executive instruments (E. I.) 15 of December, 2003 and Legislative Instrument L. I. 1795 of 17th March, 2007. The Municipality is located between latitude 5.35N and 5.65N and longitude 6.35N and 6.90N. It covers a land area of 162.4sqkm. There are 53 communities in the Municipality which share 30 electoral areas.
The AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mines Jimi water pumping station near Akrofuom has been attacked by some unsuspecting criminals forcing water shortage to the company’s hospital and some Obuasi communities.
The Obuasi Municipal Assembly is planning to move on residents living close to the only water reservoir that serves millions of residents within the Municipality, in order to avert any possible disaster.
