Obuasi Municipal Assembly was carved out of the erstwhile Adansi West District Assembly on the strength of executive instruments (E. I.) 15 of December, 2003 and Legislative Instrument L. I. 1795 of 17th March, 2007. The Municipality is located between latitude 5.35N and 5.65N and longitude 6.35N and 6.90N. It covers a land area of 162.4sqkm. There are 53 communities in the Municipality which share 30 electoral areas.
Two projects – a mechanized borehole and washrooms for a basic school, built at Ahansoyewodea, a farming community near Obuasi, at a total cost of about GH¢ 100,000, have been inaugurated at a ceremony at Ahansoyewodea.
