Asunafo North Municipal forms the base of the colonial Ahafo District, which was one of the first districts created in the present Brong Ahafo Region and which dates back as far as 1912. The municipal capital is Goaso. The district shares common boundaries with the Asutifi District to the north and east, the Dormaa Municipal to the north-west and the Juabeso Bia and Sefwi Wiawso Districts in the Western Region to the west and south. Asunafo North Municipal is bordered to the south-east by Ashanti Region’s Atwima District.
