The Aowin District formerly Aowin/Suaman District lies in the mid-western part of the Western Region of Ghana between latitude five degrees twenty-five minutes and six degrees fourteen minutes North (5° 25’ N and 6° 14’ N) and longitude two degrees thirty minutes and three degrees five minutes West (2° 30’W and 3° 05’W). It shares boundaries to the South with Jomoro District, to the East with Wasa Amenfi, to the North with Juabeso-Bia and Sefwi-Wiawso and to the West with the Republic of La Cote D’lvoire.
The total area of the district is 2,717 square kilometers. This constitutes about 12 percent (12%) of the Region’s area of 23,921 square kilometers. The capital of the District is Enchi. Other major settlements in the district are Dadieso, Boinso, New Yakasi, Jema and Asemkrom.
The Nzema East Municipal which is one of the thirteen (13) Districts in the Western Region of Ghana is located on the southern end of the region between longitudes 2005’ and 2035’ west and latitudes 40 40’ and 50 20 North .
It is bounded on the West by Jomoro District, North by Wassa Amenfi East and the East by Wassa Amenfi West and Ahanta West Districts. On the South, it is bounded by the Gulf of Guinea with a 70 km stretch of sandy beaches. This District also covers a total area of about 2, 1942 (square kilometers) which also forms about 9.8% (percent) of the total land area of the Western Region.
